Early design proposals for an extension to a listed house in Barley

The scheme provides a series of linked spaces that step down to follow the slope of the site, to provide a new dining room and living room within a light and airy interior of varying height and dimension. The back wall of the existing house, against which a new staircase rises, plays an important part in the overall composition. Exposed timber beams and rafters support a mono-pitch roof that refers back to the timber-framed medieval hall and a continuous glazed roof at the junction with the house brings natural light to the back of the space to ensure decent lighting levels in the original rooms.”
